OMNI serves as the human resources business partner of Visit Overland Park. We are assisting them in their search for a Director of Marketing to join the organization’s leadership team.  The mission of Visit Overland Park is to facilitate tourism development and promote Overland Park as a convention, leisure and sports destination.


Reporting to the President, the Director of Marketing will be responsible for knowing marketing trends and developing strategy to plan, direct and implement all marketing and promotional programs; determine and measure the short and long-term demand for services of Visit Overland Park and destination.  Support the sales team on developing marketing resources needed to earn and support business.  Promote the destination as a leisure, sports and meeting destination.  This leader will supervise all outgoing communications with personnel and direct and lead agencies.  Assist the President with stakeholder and community relations.  Additionally, the position will serve as a member of the senior leadership team.

  • Develops, implements and evaluates all internal and external marketing, communication and public relations programs.
  • Provides strategic input, directs and manages all marketing vendor relationships.
  • Collaborate with the President to perform market research, analyze results to develop new visitor projects and programs that enhance the region as a destination. 
  • Identify and monitor macro tourism trends to recommend new ideas and approaches of attracting tourism to Overland Park. 
  • Work with the group sales staff to forecast plan and promote services with a results-oriented objective of profitability of services through effective marketing strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate competitor’s approach to marketing.
  • Maintain an awareness of trends in tourism to continually bring new product and marketing ideas to Visit Overland Park. 
  • Coordinates the development of the brands multiple platforms of customer connection including:  in-person, on-line, e-media, exhibits, print, web and brand strategy, marketing programs and promotional opportunities. 
  • Monitor use of logo, brand imagery and standards on all Visit Overland Park and related partner materials, websites and advertising to ensure strategic and tactical consistency. 
  • Train, mentor and coordinate work of staff (team of two); oversee ad agency, vendors and partners. 
  • Manage close working relationships with local media to ensure Visit Overland Park is properly positioned. 
  • Actively participate in trade shows, community events and organizations to promote Visit Overland Park. 
  • Lead overall direction, coordination, completion and control of Visit Overland Park projects, ensuring consistency with the Visit Overland Park strategy, commitments and goals. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of short- and long-term corporate strategy that is aligned with Board directives. 
  • Effectively manage a budget that supports Visit Overland Park’s overall strategy. 


  • Represents and performs a leadership role inside and outside the organization with a mission toward bringing more visitors to Overland Park. 
  • Possess excellent communication capabilities in both written and oral forms and comfort with public speaking as a representative of Visit Overland Park. 
  • Knowledge of outside Marketing Agency business models and performance measures.
  • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members.
  • Directs the creation and implementation of innovative concepts, messages, images and delivery systems. 
  • Be detail-oriented and an effective process/project manager. 
  • Have strong interpersonal skills that allow for success internally and externally and work in a team environment.
  • Work comfortably with Board Members and facilitate their engagement. 
  • Be actively involved in the community and its public/private organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Management or Communications plus 3 to 5 years related destination and tourism experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Prior to management and destination marketing experience is preferred.  Should demonstrate experience in innovative use of various promotional tactics, marketing media including print and digital as well as effectively managing the process of creating and producing a variety of marketing promotions, materials and programs both through internal staff and external resources. 
  • Experience in research, strategy, creativity, collaboration and project management skills to produce meaningful results.
