    OMNI is honored to be retained by United Way of Greater Kansas City in their search for an Accounting Manager. UWGKC unites donors, volunteers, businesses, nonprofits and community leaders to help change the lives of those in need.     This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This is a great leadership opportunity as part of the Finance and Process Improvement Team.

    Responsibilities

    Reporting to the SVP of Finance & Process Improvement, the Accounting Manager addresses accounting activities including general ledger preparation, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities, as well as payroll activities, including 403(b) remittance and compliance.

    • Supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff.
    • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including accounts receivable and revenue.
    • Record monthly activity for investments, trusts, employee benefits, and restricted funds.
    • Review vendor payments for accuracy.
    • Reconcile expenses for grant reporting and compile documentation for reimbursement from grantor.
    • Provide monthly budget reports to Vice Presidents and Senior Vice Presidents.
    • Assist with annual budget preparation.
    • Prepare year end audit workpapers and assist with annual audit and 990 preparation.
    • Maintain, and strive to improve, accounting processes and procedures required to execute departmental functions at the highest level of quality.
    • Prepare semimonthly payroll.
    • Ensure funds are properly remitted to 403(b) recordkeeper and HSA accounts.
    • Prepare information needed for calculation of annual discretionary contribution.
    • Prepare workpapers and assist with annual 403(b) audit.

    Qualifications

    • Five years’ related accounting experience required; public accounting experience or nonprofit environment preferred. Demonstrated success in a management or supervisory role required.
    • Self-motivated and highly detail oriented with experience preparing financial statements and managing high-level reconciliations.
    • Proven strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
    • Bachelor’s degree required. Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed leadership style.
