    OMNI is honored to assist United Way of Greater Kansas City in their search for a Community Engagement Director. UWGKC unites donors, volunteers, businesses, nonprofits and community leaders to help change the lives of those in need. The organization has been making Kansas City and the surrounding area better for 100 years and counting.


    This role is responsible for building strategic relationships through local boards, committees, chambers of commerce, local business and service clubs. The CED actively works with the Vice President, Market Development to recruit and retain key influencers to help leverage community resources to better address challenges in the community. The goal is to raise dollars, achieve United Way of Greater Kansas City’s (UWGKC) annual revenue goal, and identify opportunities for growth in existing and new campaigns while utilizing volunteers and community stakeholders to meet and exceed goals. This position will also seize opportunities to partner with companies and engage workforce employees in UWGKC’s work year-round on specific community engagement strategies that may yield non-financial resources.




    Reporting to the Chief Marketing & Philanthropy Officer, the Community Engagement Director is responsible for oversight, planning and implementation to drive year-round employee and community engagement and investment in signature events, initiatives and partnerships. The CED works in tandem with the Vice President of Market Development and the Marketing & Development team with donor prospecting and special multi-year fundraising campaigns for local initiatives. This position maintains and actively updates partner records utilizing the CRM database. The CED understands and complies with all gift-related policies and procedures and ensures ethical compliance.


    Additional responsibilities include:

    • Serve on local boards and committees, attend chamber of commerce networking events, local business associations, and leadership groups sharing stories about UWGKC’s investment in the assigned geographic area and provide volunteer opportunities.
    • Develop strategic engagement of corporate and organization partners through year-round partnership plans and implementation aligned with the organization’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) priorities in partnership with community engagement and/or volunteerism.
    • Strategize with the Vice President of Market Development and the Marketing & Development team to identify high potential prospects and develop a year-round fundraising engagement strategy for each account based on targeted research.
    • Identify, engage, and enlist key influencers and new prospects utilizing board members as a viable asset in the cultivation, solicitation and closing of gifts.
    • Prioritize and manage an assigned portfolio with individual, corporate, and organization partners focused on raising resources and exceeding campaign goals.
    • Serve as a good steward of UWGKC resources, e.g., securing in-kind support to defray costs, utilizing board members to leverage their relationships to cover costs of attending signature local events.



    • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field - Nonprofit Management, Business, Marketing, Communications, Liberal Arts.
    • Three years' of relevant experience in nonprofit resource development or competitive sales.
    • Demonstrated success developing and maintaining effective relationships in nonprofit, corporate, government and other community stakeholder groups.
    • Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills. Strong relationship building and managerial experience.
    • Proven reputation for integrity and professionalism. Strategic thinker with a proven track record of driving results. 
    • Consummate team player with flexible, collaborative and creative approach who can lead from behind and empower teammates to contribute their best.
