OMNI is honored to have been retained by Wilbert Funeral Services in the search for a Chief People Officer.  Wilbert is a long-standing, growing, and dynamic organization with headquarters in Leawood, KS.  This role will be responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the organization’s strategic direction specifically in the areas of talent management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, and compensation and benefits.

 

Since 1880, Wilbert Funeral Services Inc. has been the industry leader in developing burial vault technology and fabrication standards. This includes the manufacturing of the burial vaults, delivery and set-up services at the gravesite, to create a dignified, respectful service.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop HR plans and strategies to support the achievement of the overall business objectives.
  • Function as a strategic business advisor to the executive/senior management of each business unit or specialty group regarding key organizational and management issues.
  • Develop comprehensive strategic recruiting and retention plans to meet the human capital needs. Additionally, work with the company's executive management team to establish a sound plan of management succession that corresponds to company strategy.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive compensation and benefits plans that are competitive and cost-effective.
  • Provide overall leadership and guidance to the HR function by overseeing talent acquisition and retention, career development, succession planning, training, leadership development, compensation, and benefits.
  • Develop, monitor, and update safety regulatory and awareness policies and educational training for company management, supervisors, and employees.
  • Lead ongoing evaluation, development and implementation of HR and Payroll systems.
  • Manage compliance obligations related to company policies, industry requirements, employment law and investigations, and audits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in human resources or related field preferred.
  • SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification preferred.
  • 15+ years of HR leadership experience, with at least five years of executive HR experience.
  • Manufacturing and Union experience preferred.
  • HR leadership for multi-location organization essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Sound judgement and decision-making ability.
  • Strong knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA, DOT, DOL, EPA and other federal, state, and local environmental health and safety laws.
  • Knowledge of and experience with varied human resource information systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Occasional travel up to 2-3 nights per month, as necessary.
