OMNI is honored to be retained by Youth Guidance in their search for a Director, Human Resources. Reporting to the CHRO, this position is responsible for supporting the strategic and operational needs of the organization’s business plan and executing key strategic initiatives related to the plan.  This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of a fast growing, transformational not-for-profit organization based in Chicago, and growing and expanding across major metropolitan cities.  The ideal candidate will be impassioned about the mission of Youth Guidance and the future of youth.    

 

Originating in Chicago, Youth Guidance creates and implements school-based counseling and mentoring programs that guide young men and women in 7th – 12th grades to learn, internalize and practice social cognitive skills, make responsible decisions for their future, and become positive members of their school and community.  The programs enable children to overcome obstacles, focus on their education, and ultimately, to succeed in school and life. The organization directly serving more than 13,000 youth.  Highly-trained and deeply committed staff meet young people where they are – physically and emotionally – and help them to recognize and reach their full potential through counseling, mentoring, support, and life-skills to the students who need it most, helping them transform their lives.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead an effective HR team, identify, and grow high performing talent, provide direct supervision, which includes work assignments, coaching/development, and daily workflows.
  • Build collaborative and trusting relationships with the leadership team across departments and organizational programs and ensure effective guidance and support of the HR needs and initiatives.
  • Identify and align core and leadership competencies with organizational processes and practices.
  • Lead and support the integration of DEI initiatives.
  • Ensure polices, practices and procedures are in compliance, and administered fairly and consistently with applicable Federal, State, local regulatory agencies, and Funder requirements.
  • Develop and implement progressive performance evaluation practices that measure results with consistent metrics aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities.
  • Develop and implement best practices for recruiting and onboarding to ensure success in the areas of employee integration, retention, and compliance.
  • Partner with company leaders to resolve employee relation situations ensuring alignment with the company standards and culture.
  • Understand, manage and lead the on-going effective utilization of human resources information systems related to recruitment, general human resource management and learning management systems.
  • Proactively assess trends and stay abreast of the legislation related to ever-changing employment and benefit laws to ensure a compliant and positive work culture.

Qualifications

  • COVID vaccination is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or related discipline. Master’s degree preferred. SHRM certification preferred.
  • 7 – 10 years of HR and operations management. Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Strong functional skills in employee relations, compensation, talent management, and process management.
  • Prior experience working in and managing multi-state operations.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making capabilities including integrity and confidentiality.
  • Prior experience in a fast paced, growing organization with the ability to pivot and adapt quickly.
  • Experience in a large, complex organization designing and implementing new program and processes, leveraging technology for the effective and efficient delivery of outcomes.
  • Prior experience with leading strategic planning activities; ability to modify strategies in response to dynamic operating conditions in which economic, political and cultural realities are changing constantly.
  • Proven experience managing diverse relationships, relating well to a wide variety of styles, and treating differences fairly and equitably.
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong knowledge of HRIS systems and the integration of multiple systems.
