OMNI is honored to be retained by Jewish Family Services in their search for a Volunteer Engagement Manager.  This position is responsible for building and developing a strategic volunteer program that serves as the driving force of Jewish Family Service’s mission, growth, and impact.  The ideal candidate will be an experienced project and people manager who brings a creative and strategic approach to their work.  They will be a trusted self-starter and an exceptional communicator who is skilled at relationship building at both the individual and organizational level. 

Jewish Family Services (JFS) supports and strengthens the Kansas City community by providing essential programs and services for individuals and families coping with crises and life’s everyday challenges. JFS is a nonprofit 501c3, non-sectarian agency, which serves people of all ages, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, religion or socioeconomic status. It serves over 7,000 individuals annually, plus an additional 20,000 young people through its You Be You mental health promotional campaign in local middle and high schools. Programs include Kesher KC Food Pantries and affiliated shelter, employment, and social work services; mental health services; and older adult services.

• Create tools and resources to recruit, engage, train, and support volunteers in alignment with the needs of the organization and its programs.
• Plan, facilitate and maintain ongoing training for volunteers, in partnership with program staff.
• Lead continuous improvement of systems to ensure logistics for volunteer opportunities are successfully implemented.
• Oversee performance indicator metrics for the volunteer program to be used in measuring success and community impact.
• Motivate volunteers through regular recognition, sense of community, and positive experience.
• Develop and solidify a network of key stakeholders and organizations to build strategic partnerships with agency initiatives and program goals.
• Participate or lead community speaking engagements to raise awareness of JFS volunteer opportunities and engage the community in the JFS mission.
• Work with the advancement team to cultivate volunteers as donors and donors as volunteers.
• Provide operational management for the Volunteer Engagement Program, including budget management.
• Supervise and provide strategic direction and ongoing support for the Volunteer Coordinator.

• Three years of experience in people and project management; specific experience in volunteer recruiting, recognition, and retention and/or completion of the Volunteer Management Institute at Nonprofit Connect or equivalent preferred.
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Volunteer Management Software or a CRM, Internet and demonstrated ability to learn new software.
• Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills and demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy skills.
• An affinity for the agency’s volunteers who share their time and skills with us every day; attentiveness to their motivations and interests and a desire to communicate gratitude and constantly improve their volunteer experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively across departments and with a wide range of staff and client populations.
• Strong track record of managing multiple projects with attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines.
  
• Good judgment and discretion, strong ethical character, ability to preserve volunteer confidentiality and when requested, volunteer anonymity.
• Proven ability to work independently and cooperatively with other agency staff and volunteers representing a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
• Fast learner who is excited by change, with creative and solutions-oriented problem-solving.
  
• Ability to stand, reach, bend and lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis during the completion of duties related to this role, including setting up for events, giving tours for community partners, and demonstrating tasks to volunteers. • This position works out of both the Brookside and Overland Park JFS locations, with the opportunity for periodic remote work, as needed.

In supervisory conversations (both with the Volunteer Coordinator and Director of Program Operations) the Volunteer Manager will be able to articulate shared challenges, ideas to meet goals, and express needs of their own in an honest and transparent manner. The targeted starting hiring salary for this position is $50,000 and is negotiable for the right candidate. Our client also offers a competitive benefits plan.
