CTA is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Tax Manager with significant knowledge of tax law and experience in tax preparation to lead our Green Energy Tax Credit service line, as well as providing tax expertise to other service lines. The ideal candidate will hold a CPA and have a solid background focused on preparing federal, state, and local tax returns as well as corresponding with the IRS, as needed. Preference will be given to candidates who reside in or near Huntsville, as this role is critical for ensuring compliance, implementing tax credit strategy, and maximizing tax credits for the organizations we serve. Qualified remote candidates will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage tax credit preparation projects for federal, state, and local returns, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and identifying opportunities for tax savings and risk mitigation.
  • Achieve client satisfaction through exceptional service and high-quality, defendable work products.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, providing valuable insights and advice to clients, prospects, and team members.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, including Green Energy, 179D, Cost Segregation, R&D, ERC and other tax credit regulations. Leading and implementing changes to the company’s tax strategy, when necessary.
  • Manage audits, including responding to IDRs and protest letters, liaising with government agencies, preparing documentation, and working closely with external auditors and legal advisors.
  • Develop and execute tax planning strategies to optimize tax positions and reduce liabilities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to assess taxpayer eligibility, review technical reports, and instruct clients/CPAs on relevant tax forms and filings including legal writing of summary reports.
  • Research tax issues related to the Green Energy, R&D and all other tax credit service lines, address tax questions, and provide expertise for business development, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage and organize client information through the CRM and project platform software.
  • Ensure professionalism in all interactions with clients and team members.
  • Mentor team of tax professionals, fostering their growth and development.
  • Complete assigned trainings and support additional tasks as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred; IRS Enrolled Agent certification will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in tax management, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, with proven experience preparing tax forms.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex tax concepts to stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
