We are seeking a proactive Purchasing/Procurement Specialist to oversee purchasing, manage inventory, contribute to sales and operations planning, and work with overseas manufacturing and logistics partners. Based in Overland Park, KS, this role reports to the CFO. 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with sales to analyze supply and demand data, ensuring inventory meets customer needs.
  • Manage procurement, placing orders based on demand forecasts, production schedules, and delivery timelines.
  • Communicate with suppliers for order confirmations and adjust due dates as needed.
  • Keep internal teams informed about material status, including delays and backorders.
  • Oversee the relationship with the ocean logistics partner, updating stakeholders on transit and cost impacts.
  • Track commodity and transport price fluctuations.
  • Negotiate pricing and collaborate with engineering and sales to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate vendor and inventory data in ERP, including pricing, lead times, and stock strategies.
  • Facilitate communication between departments (Operations, Receiving, Engineering, Accounting) on procurement issues, including new product designs.
  • Work with Quality to resolve supplier issues, warranty claims, and obtain credits.
  • Source and purchase components for engineering, production, and sales as needed.
  • Create and distribute supplier scorecards to stakeholders.
  • Assist in evaluating new suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or a related role required.
  • Experience in negotiation and problem resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and technical writing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of MRP (Material Requirements Planning) and ERP systems.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets and develop solutions.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills and team-oriented with a positive attitude
