The Linda Hall Library, located in Kansas City, MO, is a renowned institution originating in 1946, and is one of the world’s leading independent science research libraries. Through our collections, public programs, exhibitions, and research initiatives we bring science and history alive. It all began when Herbert and Linda Hall bequeathed $6 million to establish "a free public library for the use of the people of Kansas City and the public generally". Today, with a new strategic plan, we’re building on that legacy and redefining what Linda Hall Library can offer to the world by reimagining how we connect with our community and finding fresh ways to make our collections more accessible and visible. The plan is about seeing the library as a living, breathing place where tradition and innovation meet whether you’re an academic, lifelong learner or anyone with a curiosity about the world.
The library’s grounds are maintained as an urban arboretum where science and nature intertwine, inviting the public to wander, reflect and learn. The arboretum includes a living library of 300 trees and a diverse array of plant species, emphasizing sustainability and ecological stewardship.
As a key member of the Leadership Team, the Vice President (VP) of Advancement will lead the philanthropic strategy including developing and executing multi-year fundraising plans, engaging donors, foundations, and corporations in alignment with the mission of inspiring curiosity, innovation, and cultural engagement with science. The VP will oversee major fundraising initiatives, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, planned giving, membership, and capital campaigns to deepen donor relationships and expand the library’s reach.
