ExplorUS is seeking a guest service focused General Manager to oversee the daily operations of our boutique retail store, located at the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream, a museum located in the heart of D.C., just steps from the White House. As the key member of our leadership team, you will oversee all facets of retail operations and store management, from merchandising to inventory optimization and guest engagement; ensuring every visitor encounter is memorable. You will also serve as the liaison to events personnel ensuring exceptional communication and coordination of our role related to each event from concept to execution. Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the operation including financial performance, product quality, guest satisfaction, safety, and employee development processes, with a dedicated focus on successful retail operations.
  • Lead the execution of company-wide strategies to drive excellence in quality, service, safety, and financial performance across all retail operations.
  • Oversee daily retail and warehouse operations to ensure timely receiving, accurate inventory management, and exceptional guest service.
  • Recruit, train, and empower retail team members to uphold high service standards and exceed customer expectations.
  • Monitor sales goals, inventory levels, merchandising standards, and delivery timelines to optimize operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Evaluate product performance and collaborate with the HQ Retail Director to make data-informed merchandising and assortment decisions.
  • Analyze operational and financial reports to identify trends, opportunities, and necessary corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, labor laws, and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage all aspects of cash handling, accounting procedures, and audit readiness.
  • Support marketing and sales initiatives aligned with company objectives.
  • Maintain organized stockrooms and visually compelling retail displays that drive sales.
  • Oversee accurate merchandise receiving, labeling, storage, and point-of-sale entry.
  • Drive operational improvements by identifying and resolving challenges proactively.
  • Participate in community relations and public affairs initiatives as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the Milken Center’s retail operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university is desired.
  • 5–7 years of management experience in hospitality or retail operations, preferably within a museum or non-profit setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and inspire teams daily.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with a commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Proven track record in driving revenue growth, cost control, and achieving key performance metrics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to set and implement both short-term and long-term financial and operational goals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Committed to delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physically able to bend, twist, squat, and lift up to 25 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally.

This position is located on-site at the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream, Washington, D.C., and is compensated $100-$110K with additional bonus incentives.
